These are the months where the garden is the most amazing. Every day something new happens, and you have to capture the moment.

Garden Spring Cleaning

Finally, after 2 weeks of looking at it in the driveway, we got the mulch down. Team working made short work of getting all the cleanup, planting and mulching done. My focus was on the front garden, because the hard work was in the back ;-)

I have been feeling like growth is slow this year, but in looking back at last year's April, we are actually further along.



Side yard - hostas doing well, still no lily-of-the-valley. The bleeding heart is doing well, and we replaced the grass and ivy in the urn.


Creeping Jenny is taking over!

Close-up of the left side of the bed:

the rose didn't do to well after last year's attach from "stuff". I already gave it a dose of fungicide this year and see if we can get it to recover.

I moved the heuchera over to the right a little; in the fall will move the Heartleaf Brunnera to the left way from the grass.

Island Bed

This is an experiment... I replaced the 1 dead lavender, and the rest of the bed is maybe wildflowers... We have no idea what is foxglove, sunflower, repeat seeds from last year, and weeds.... so we will let everything grow and see what happens.

Herb bed is doing amazingly well!


We had to replace the bird bath this year.

Finally Spring

It seems that all of the plants were as excited about the sun and warm weather as the people.

The garden has jumped into action!

I still haven't gotten the mulch down, but the weeds seem to be under control nonetheless.

First Steps...

It looks like 2 of the 4 lavenders are coming back.
The two that didn't make it include one from Trader Joe's and Lavendula x intermedia.
When they get plants at the nursery, I'll see if I can add a new one.

The bed got these seeds:
Sunflower Ruby Eclipse
Delphinium

I put in seeds for the trellis:
Hyacinth Bean - Ruby Moon Lablab purpureus
Bean Pole Runner - Scarlet Emperor Phaseolus coccineus
and some sweet pea - 3rd year a charm, right?

Sprinkles in the beds are:
Zinnia Cut and Come Again Zinnia elegans pumila
Zinnia Solar Flare Blend Zinnia elegans
Zinnia Fireball Blend Zinnia elegans
Bachelor's Button Black Magic Centaurea cyanus
Sweet William Double Blend Dianthus barbatus

Looking back, looking forward

I love that I have this journal of every gardening year.
Today is my big day to go and do the bed cleanup, and I was feeling like I'm a month late...
but no, it's only a week later than it was last year.

We had a crazy rainy snow storm on Friday March 20, officially on the calendar as "First day of Spring"... whatever!

So let this be the first day of documenting the 2015 gardening process!!

2015 Garden

I was concerned when the high school pushed out mulch delivery from March to April, that I'd have sprouting weeds while we waited the extra weeks.
